About Me!
I'm a senior at Central York High School and this is my first time taking Apollo. I am bilingual and have a dual-citizenship as I am a Swedish-American (And, yes, for those of you who were wondering, Swedish Fish are Swedish... and ironically I don't like them!) A lot of my views are therefore influenced by my relationship to Swedish culture. I'm a twin, too, which is always fun.
With my projects, I hope to explore prominent social issues in modern society and revive my curiosities that have been suppressed throughout the years. I hope you enjoy my projects as much as I've enjoyed creating them!

Joining Apollo has been one of the best decisions I have made in high school. Initially, I was very uncomfortable with the idea of removing the traditional classroom structure that I had been so used to following and replacing it with a more customized approach. I have always done well following directions and performing in a traditional school environment, so I didn't think joining Apollo would be necessary for me. Although it may not have been necessary for my academics, it has certainly impacted me personally.
Many describe me as a perfectionist that is meticulous about nearly everything. With this perfectionism, I find myself with a lot of anxiety about being the best at everything that I pursue. My entire life has been a battle with stress regarding school and swimming. By putting so much energy into everything, I've been left exhausted and in an even worse state of mind than the previous year. Finally, after contemplating whether or not I should take the course, I listened to my heart and signed up. Now, just after completing my first project, I can confidently say that I have become more positive about my outlook on life. Apollo has taught me that if you allow yourself to expand beyond the restrictive box that many are pressured to fit into you can create unbelievable things. Apollo focuses on your interests, further inspiring and fueling your passions. My curiosities are fed in Apollo, which brings the fun back into learning. For once in my life, I can wake up and look in the mirror without disgust. I am enough just being me, and everyday is a great day to be alive. |
