Project Two: Addressing Male Body Ideals and Masculinity
When body positivity is brought up, it is almost always associated with women. In recent years, the movement of empowering women to be comfortable in their own skin has blown up. Dove launched the "Real Beauty" campaign and more clothing companies are using models who don't fit the typical female body ideal. The problem? The idea that body dissatisfaction is not just a female-only issue is not being addressed or acknowledged. As a way to raise awareness about the taboo topic of male body image, I dedicated my second project to this idea.
Initially, I wanted to create a magazine that mirrored male magazines like MQ or Men's Fitness; the caveat with that was the difficulty of integrating interactive elements, like linking relevant videos, to my work. This led to the development of my website, Maskulinity.
