As we look back in time we learn that this world isn’t as sweet as we really think it is. Unfortunately, some of us learn this earlier than others. Child abuse is a problem all over the world but in America there are more than three million cases a year involving six million children. Every 10 seconds there is a report of child abuse given losing about 4-7 children every day due to being neglected. Child abuse happens when a parent or caretaker physically, emotionally, or sexually abuses, neglects or abandons a child. In the early 1800’s this was never a problem until in the early 1870’s when someone reported that an 8 year old Mary Ellen was suffering daily whippings and beatings in her foster home. This brought so much attention that New York created the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The percentages of child abuse is high in each category. Physical abuse is 28 percent, sexual abuse is 20.7 percent, emotional abuse is 10.6 percent, emotional neglect is 9.9 percent and physical neglect is 14.8 percent. When children are abused in this way they usually result to a troubled life as they grow older or result to suicide. When children are physically abused, 11.7 percent result to suicide. When they are sexual abused 14.8 percent result to suicide and when they are abused in both physical and sexual ways, the percentage is 32.2 percent. When children suffer any form of child abuse, it may affect them in the long run. Some children struggle in school and result in doing bad things. Some children suffer a trauma that affects their daily life in and out of school. When children that suffer child abuse at home grow into their teens they usually start to do bad things like drugs, alcohol and vandalizing. These thing usually haunt them into their adulthood.

This man raped and killed eight young woman. He never got attention from his mother after his father died. He had an alcoholic step father.  His dream was to make the headlines. 

Rodney Alcala 

This man raped, battered and killed 4 women. Alcala's fahter abandoned him at an early age. He was discharged from the army for having anti-social disorder. He targeted young boys and women. 

Gary Ridgway 

This man raped and killed 49 woman. He was a regular guy nobody expected would harm anybody. As a child Gary was influenced by his father in a negative way. He also gained an attraction for his own mother.
