FASHION! FASHION! FASHION!
For my project I decided to research two American fashion designers, Kate Spade and Calvin Klein. With this research I found similarities and differences in their backgrounds as well as their fashion choices. I also researched how fashion has changed over time. What we where now is completely different than what people wore in the 1800's.
Lets get started!
With the theme: thinkers, dreamers, and doers I had no idea what to do for my project. My first idea was to do it based on the titanic. The more I thought about the more I wanted to trash the idea. So I did. I really wanted to do project three about something based on hobbies. One of my hobbies is shopping, so I thought about the idea of fashion and fashion designers. I really liked this idea so I started to put the pieces together to form my project.
I started researching the top 10 fashion designers from America and wrote them all down. After the I looked up all the names from the list and read a short summary about them. Then I crossed out the people I didn't want to do. I had 7 people left and with those 7 people I researched a little more into their backgrounds. Choosing two would be really hard but it had to be done. I went with my heart and chose Kate Spade and Calvin Klein.

So what now?
Now that I have my two designers it was time to start researching! I went to the Gale Database and looked up their names. These are my notes:
After researching the fashion designers I started to sketch out my painting. I wanted to intertwine 3-D and a painting. My first sketch was two peoples with their heads open and having a cloud of thoughts combine. Then to incorporate the 3-D aspect I wanted to create clay models. I had to create a wire skeleton first and then build the putty around it. However the models didn't turn out the way I hoped so I had to ditch that idea. After discussing my situation with Mr. Grandi we decided to just college on the models. The girl/pink represents Kate Spade and the guy/blue represents Calvin Klein. |

So I painted my base grey and glued my models onto watercolor paper, cut them out, and then glued them onto my painting. After that I free handed the clouds coming off of them. Once I was happy with the way they looked I printed out some pictures that represented things that had to deal with their personal lives/fashion. After they were printed I glued them onto to watercolor paper then glued them on the painting. I arranged them from the top being the beginning of their lives to the bottom being where they are now.

English and History
So I thought to myself, how could I incorporate my english and history. I though of doing a poem again but then I was like nah, I want to do something I haven't done yet. So I asked my friend Deborah what I should do. She gave me the idea of doing journal entries because that's what she did for one of her projects, but I didn't want to copy her. So I thought of combining history and english and came up with doing a fashion magazine article about how fashion has changed over the decades. I started researching each decade starting from the 50's till the 90's. I then looked at how fashion magazines are laid out then tried to replicate it without stealing their ideas. After I had all my notes I started to create my article. Click the file below to read it!
