Testing Period : Approximately 9 days.
Cumulatively these are probably upwards of 600 - 800 questions per person. It was very difficult and time consuming to gather all this data.
Myer-Briggs Test
Otherwise known as the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, this test is questionnaire meant to pinpoint psychological preferences and tendencies in how people perceive the world around them as well as how they make decisions. Inspired by prominent psychotherapist, psychiatrist, and founder of analytical psychology Carl Jung, the MBTI was first developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. Jung had speculated that how a person experiences the world could be broken down into four psychological functions – sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. Inspired by these ideas, Katharine and Isabel set out to develop a test that utilized the premise of Jung’s theory in order to help people and improve their lives ( 16Personalities ). When it first came into use, the MBTI was primarily used to determine a person’s optimal war-time job as it was during WWII. In contemporary times, the MBTI has become one of the most popular tests in the business sector and is often used to better understand potential or current employees and subsequently create a more ideal work environment ( Extraverted INtuitive Feeling P2 ). It is also frequently used in marital counseling to help couples attain a better grasp on one another, and schools to help administration understand a student and their potential career path, learning style, etc. It has been taken by millions of people since its development and is widely regarded as one of the most established, well known psychological tests in existence.

Enneagram
Otherwise known as the Enneagram of Personality, the Enneagram is a model of human personality where there are nine interconnected, fundamentally understood ‘types’ that one can fall under. Though the official origin is generally unknown, the modern understanding of the Enneagram largely comes from Chilean-born psychiatrist Claudio Naranjo, and scar Ichazo -- though Naranjo’s theories themselves were derived from G.I. Gurdjieff ( How the System P3 ). What the Enneagram test itself seeks to do is identify which of the nine personality types, otherwise known as Enneatypes, best fit an individual. Upon completing the test, one will usually be able to identify two things. First, the type that fits you most closely should be evident. This is considered your basic personality type as well as the overall base of your demeanor and temperament. It is widely agreed upon that everyone is born with predisposition to one of the nine types and that this predisposition greatly affects how we learn to interact with the world around us as children. Your basic personality type may fluctuate in health and thus have slight differences in traits at times, but it never truly changes. The second thing you should be able to identify, at least in most Enneagram tests, is your wing type. Unlike your basic type, which is the dominating force of your overall personality, a wing type complements and adds dynamics to your character ( How the System P3 ). This is typically your second highest score. Since the origins of the Enneagram of Personality are a subject of debate, the era of its development is not exact. However, it has become a prominent tool for the workplace in a similar fashion as the MBTI. In contrast, however, it is seen as a more mystical, spiritually based sort of self examination and is recommended to those on a path towards some form of enlightenment who seek ‘higher states of being’.

Moral Alignment
Unlike the other tests which take a psychiatric approach based on the foundations of personality psychology, the moral alignment test isn’t technically a scientific examination. I included it because what it implies and the ethics it explores are very, in my opinion, interesting. This test actually arose from the RPG community and is mainly used in such games as Dungeons & Dragons -- but it was the most hotly debated and fascinating of all the tests I gave. It truly betrayed the moral compasses and ethics of all the participants and all our results shocked each other. It was weird to see the differences in the morals we never thought to discuss, and because of this enlightenment and learning experience I felt the test was worth including at least on an informal basis, removed from the majority of the professional-influenced case studies. It brought to light some, in all honesty, moderately concerning aspects of many of our participant’s personalities and in the end that was the goal of this project.

Locus of Control
A Locus of Control is defined as the degree to which people believe that they have control over the outcome of events in their lives, as opposed to external forces beyond their control. Develop by prominent Ohio State psychologist Julian Rotter in 1954, the Locus of Control has earned respect from the community of personality psychology ( What Is Locus P4 ). Unlike many personality exams which spark debate, the Locus of Control is widely accepted as a credible theory. While some criticisms exist as they always do, the majority praises this work for its practicality and success rate. The test I have given to my participants seeks to identify where on the spectrum of the two loci they may fall. If they are in the external end, they are presumably inclined to feel that life and what happens in it is beyond their control. They believe that life is predetermined by fate, or that external factors have the most control — this has a down side of negating personal responsibility and as a result is viewed as the immature end ( External Locus of ). If they fall in the internal end, however, they are inclined to feel that events in their life are controlled by their own actions and behaviors. Though this has the downside of opening doors for self deprecation and harsh internal criticism, it is regarded as the mature locus because it allows for personal responsibility ( Internal Locus of ). Though not stated directly, most people fall in the middle of the spectrum with a bias towards one of the ends. This is considered an ambiverted Locus of Control and is arguably the most realistic as it combines both internal and external factors. In any case, the Locus of Control is an accepted and tested workplace tool that has an accuracy in behavior prediction not present the same way in the other exams. As such, it is incredibly common.

Emotional Intelligence
Though emotional intelligence as a psychiatric and psychological concept is both agreed upon and acknowledged, the methods of testing it are not universal. While the one utilized for my examinations is arguably the most thorough and lengthy of the tests, there is still not enough information to write in regards to the origin and history of this exam. As such, little can be said for the specifics such as originators and era of development. That being said, it is a very common tool in the workplace and is used frequently in corporate venues.

Four Temperaments
The most long standing, established tests given in this project is definitely the Four Temperaments. A well known trope that even inspired a ballet, the four temperaments are proto-psychological theory suggesting that there are four fundamental personality types -- those being sanguine, considered optimistic and social, choleric, temperamental and harsh, melancholic, intelligent, quiet, and brooding, and phlegmatic, placid and harmonious ( The Four Temperaments ). It is believed by most that these types can exist in mixture, however. Though he is not necessarily the originator, the famous Greek physician Hippocrates allegedly first mentioned the four temperaments in his medical theories. They were tied into the ancient concept known as humorism. Humorism inquires that four bodily fluids influence on a biological level the the personality and behaviors of every individual. This then, in theory, translates into the four temperaments ( The Four Temperaments ). Though this idea of a physiological influence has in contemporary times been rejected as a pseudoscience, the idea of the four temperaments themselves as a personality model still receives a notable amount of scientific acknowledgement and acceptance. It is often used as a means of self introspection and a tool of understanding, though unlike the Enneagram, MBTI, and emotional intelligence tests it is not as used in professional settings.
