Project 2: Hammers and Anvils

Women's Rights!

English, Art and History rolled into one.

I wrote a children's book about a Dinosaur, named Morgan, who runs into obstacles just because she's a girl. She calls her friend Sydney for advice. Click the link below to read my story.

Hold up! Wait a minute.

How did you come up with your idea, Bea?

My Process:

I chose the topic of women's rights because it's something that interests me. After I got my topic I started doing all my research on the history of women's rights socially, economically, and politically.

Once I finished all my research and put it into an annotated bibliography I started thinking of ways to present my information. At first I thought about doing three videos as well as writing a poem. The more I thought about it the more I disliked the idea. So the thought of writing a children's book came to me. After deciding that I'm writing a children's book I went down to the preschool to look at how children's books are structured.

English

Before doing a children's book, my original idea was to do three videos and then write a poem. After doing all my research,  I actually wrote my poem for that idea. I used points from my poem to create the plot for my book.

Before doing anything else with my children's book I went down to the preschool and asked them if I could borrow to look at how children's books are structured. After vigorously reading through these four children's book. I decided to jump right in and start planning. I created a Google Doc and started listing different character themes.

Once I complied my list of character themes I had to choose which one I wanted. After thinking long and hard I decided to go with dinosaurs because I love dinosaurs. Rawr! Then I created my list of main characters. Since I already had my plot I built around that and created my story! Click the link above to read it!

Art

To create my characters I looked at images of cartoon dinosaurs on Google and sketched out the ones that I liked.

I then had to pick a color scheme for each of my dinosaurs.

I then drew them in the scenarios within the book. Then I outlined them in sharpie, colored them with a watercolor pencil and then brushed over them with water.

Social Studies

I started doing my research about women's rights online. Once I had a background knowledge, I asked Mr. Wimmer for some books about women's rights.
