Project Overview
|
This project is called Evolution of Trap Music, it describes how today's trap music evolved from southern hip-hop that originated in Atlanta, Georgia.
I t tells how it evolved from ,"trap rappers" rapping about the trap environment of drug deals and the struggle for success down in Atlanta, Georgia, to the fast paced dance music it is today. The project informs you of what instruments are used to make the music, such as heavy bass hits, fast hihats, and an orchestration of synths and different types of brass instruments. It describes the difference between EDM trap and trap rap and also compares the trap music today to the modern music young teens listen to today and describe how many trap characteristics are incorporated into the music. |
Social Studies
For the social studies aspect of this project, I described how trap music evolved from early 90s hip-hop in Atlanta, Georgia.
I decided to use the thinkings skill, classify, for this area of the project, because after trap music had begun to evolve into its own genre, many listeners of both electronic music and hip-hip were confused, considering critics and fans alike were using the term "trap" to identify two different genres.
This issue was soon cleared up when listeners of both genres started calling them, "EDM trap", and "trap rap", to help distinguish the two different genres.
Also after trap had become its own genre there were many subgenres that came about because of trap. Different subgenres such as, "traphouse", "trap-ah-ton", and "trapstep", had came out of trap music, all incorporating different trap elements, making trap music itself gain even more popularity than it already had by 2012.

Art
For the art aspect of this project, I had downloaded a few tracks onto my phone (found in Links To Listen) and played them throughout the presentation. I had used the thinking skill, compare/contrast, for this area of the project, because there is a lot in common between trap music and the modern music that teens listen to today, and between trap and today's hip-hop.
I also described the similarities between trap music today, today's hip-hop, and the modern music that teens listen to today. I explained the similarities between these thee types of music, by referring to the different instruments used in all three genres to make them what they are, and I also described how all these types of music use a lot of repetition and bass drops throughout the songs.

English
For the English aspect of this project i used the thinking skill, abstracting, because today's music that teens listen to has adopted a lot of characteristics that came from trap music and trap rap in the early 90s.
The different things that have been adopted by today's music would be things like, fast hihats, crisp snares, heavy bass hits, and choppy melodic synth notes. Also today's modern music has adopted the heavy bass drops, often heard in trap music and dubstep. The difference, though, is in dubstep, the music has a build up to a drop that continues on the same beat that the beat is using. Trap music, uses heavy bass drops similarly, but trap music deviates from the regular pattern and drops the bass on the offbeats of the beat after the build up in an attempt to throw of the listener's expectations and create more powerful bass drops than in regular EDM music, or dubstep.
