When you think of animation what’s the first thing to come to mind? Is it a movie? Or possibly a corporation? Maybe it is a character? Well, personally when I think of animation I think Disney. Disney Studios was founded in the year 1923. Walt Disney and his brother Roy created their very first comedic animated/action series called Alice Comedies. As the years went on changes were made at the Disney studio. Mickey Mouse, one of the most famous characters was “born” in 1928 and following Mickey the rest of the gang was created, Pluto, Donald, Goofy and more. Disney was kicking off to become well known and more time and money was being spent to grow the corporation.
Disney hit a huge milestone for animation in 1937 when they accomplished their first full length movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a story based on the famous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Snow White was the very first animated feature to use hand drawn animation. Although the process of creating Disney very first film took a very long time. If we take a look at Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs one of the major subjects in the movie are the seven dwarfs. For the Disney animation crew back then it took them around two years to finally come up with the final rendering of the dwarfs. In just this one movie 1.5 million cels were used in the movie. Cels are transparent sheets on which objects are drawn or painted. The movie received amazing critics and the honorary Academy Award. Things were truly looking up for Disney Productions. The Disney Corporation continued to grow and bloom with more well known movies being made including Pinocchio, Fantasia, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, The Jungle Book, The Lion King and so many more. Disney was able to accomplish another major milestone for the world of animation in the year 1995. Disney purchased another company called Pixar. Together the two teams created the feature Toy Story which was the very first computer animated film to ever be released. Toy Story changed movie history, the feature won and Academy Award for Special Achievement as well as nominations for best original screenplay, score and song. Since the release of Toy Story Disney and Pixar have worked together to create over 15 movies and bringing home 26 academy awards and 3 grammys. The Incredibles becoming a smaller milestone for the first feature with computer animated people. The Good Dinosaur creating prehistoric eras. Walt Disney Studios continues to amaze with any film that they release. From Snow White to Toy Story, to Big Hero Six the very first Disney animated film to feature Marvel Comics Characters, to their newest hit Zootopia and more on the way. Disney has affected the movie world in so many ways that as viewers we are thankful for the joy those movie bring to people of every age. |

For my English and Art portion of my project I created a story board for an animated short which I am planing to animate over the course of the school year. My story will follow a young hedgehog who has this fear of going outside due to predators. When the family wants to leave the young hedgehog becomes frightened and stays behind. As the story progresses a shadow of an owl appears outside of the hedgehogs home scarring the young one. In the end the young hedgehog grows in confidence and rushes outside to meet the rest of his family only to find that the "owl shadow" was just leafs and branches projecting it. The hedgehog doesn't scare anymore. The story is trying to teach people that fear is just in our minds don't let it control your life.
