Well, hello there! Glad to see you're not too tired of me. Welcome to my first ever project in Apollo! It's a Disorder not a Decision is based upon mental health. My reason for choosing mental health is because people are tending to place a stigma on people with mental health. Combining history, art and english I was able to produce a product for the support of stoping mental health stigma and spreading the awareness.
English
For english I read a short story called The Yellow Wallpaper written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I chose to read this short story and analyze it. After taking notes and analyzing I wrote a journal from the husbands point of view instead of the wife which is told through out the story.
History
My history portion was hard to get a grip on. In the end I created an infographic (the button below). The infographic tells of three major events or people. I also made a companion essay that goes with my art explaining the history components that connect to my drawings. For example the drawing of the justice balance, scroll and judges hammer represent that the issue has become a major issue and has been brought to the attention of courts across the globe. Especially with one of the biggest reformers of the 18th century Dorothea Dix took her findings to court and started a movement to help the mentally ill.
Art
My art portion was a chalk drawing which was placed on my driveway. The drawing had five different sections. The middle which has the green mental health ribbon and the hashtag #BreakTheStigma. The four next sections are smaller and hold some sort of history component. The upper left hand corner there are pill bottles drawn with mental illness written on the labels. The Upper Right hand corner has a drawing of parchment with the words The Yellow Wallpaper which is an easter egg for my english portion. Now on the lower right hand corner has a drawing of an asylum that links to the centers for housing and treating mentally ill. The last section is a drawing of the justice balance, scroll, and judges hammer which link to the 18th century forward.
